Mary Mooney has such an energy about her that you can’t help but smile and feel alive in her presence. She absolutely loves captivating an audience, and now, she has chosen to share her thoughts with the world. Really, what bigger audience can you get than the world?
Mary authors a daily blog called “Heartprints.” It’s raw. It’s real. It’s Mary Mooney’s platform to write about anything that affects her. She blogs just about every day, and since she enjoys doing it, it never feels like work. She intends for Heartprints to be her legacy.
After leaving her job, Mary began journaling. Everyday she would write about something that made her feel grateful. She then attended a writer’s conference and discovered that writing a blog was an excellent way for a writer to be heard and build an audience.
But, to be a successful blogger, Mary had to overcome her self-doubt and fear of not being liked or good enough. Through the support of friends, family, a writer’s group and even her blog followers, Mary gained the confidence she needed not to censor herself and write about whatever she feels like sharing. As a result, her blog has brought so many new people into her world.
What can we learn from Mary’s story? Don’t be afraid to try new things! Mary suggests always trying something out of the box. Attend a lecture at a senior center or perhaps take a class at the local high school or college. If you don’t like it, then try another one! Mary’s motto is, “At age 55+, you don’t have to stick it out! If you don’t like it, move on and try something else! Just DO IT!”
