David Page creates all the time. For him, “creating is like breathing.” Retired as an art teacher who eventually went into administration, painting and drawing have been his passions since childhood.
When you walk through David’s home, you can’t help but admire the stunning canvases that adorn every wall. It is immediately evident he is always looking for something beautiful to capture. Recently, David painted several barns because he wanted to bring attention to the culture the barns supported, the beautiful landscapes, the rolling hills, and the stories of the people who worked in the barns.
While it is obvious that David is a gifted painter, he refers to himself as a storyteller. He considers storytelling to be an enormous part of our culture, and he wants to keep it alive. So, David often writes short stories, poems, music or monologues to go along with his paintings. Last year, he presented an art show, which not only featured his paintings, but also public readings of some of his stories. What a unique showcase of one’s talent!
So yes, for David, creating may very well be like breathing. But, for those of you who may be interested in trying a creative pursuit but just haven’t been motivated to get started, David says, “Keep dreaming and be willing to work at it. Connect with the child in you. Let that child run.”
