Older Americans Month
You are never too old – or too young – to participate in activities that enrich you physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually. In celebration of Older Americans month, Instar Learning Alliance is spotlighting the contributions of local community “creatives” with our presentation of The Creative Age: 55 & Better! Check out our Facebook page for pictures! We also have created a new “Creative Age Exhibit” page on our website, where you can read about our amazing local creatives.
Our mission to keep older Americans visible, vocal, and valued has enriched us here at Instar Learning Alliance as much as we hope our work has helped to enrich the lives of the senior population in Montgomery County. Did you know there are 478 centenarians in Montgomery County, PA? Hats off to the Montgomery County Office of Aging and Adult Services for sponsoring a luncheon to celebrate our oldest county community members!
Engaging in creative activities – art, music, quilting, woodworking, writing, sculpting and more – increases one’s physical and mental well-being. “Use it or lose it” applies to the brain as much as it does to the body. Don’t be afraid to try something new! Learn another language. Take up a new hobby. Learn to play a hammered dulcimer. Having vision issues? Listen to audio-books instead of reading them. Stay involved with your card clubs, mahjong, bingo, and bridge. Do those crossword puzzles!
Are you an adult child of aging parents? Encourage mom and dad to stay actively involved in their communities, whether they live independently or are already part of a senior living community.
Instar Learning Alliance is engaging seniors in creative workshops that spotlight their knowledge and experience and keep their voices heard. We continue to learn from our participants! Thank you all for joining us to celebrate Older Americans Month!
